Adelaide Business Unveils Free Electric Vehicle Charger in Australian First

MEDIA RELEASE

Adelaide, South Australia – [Wednesday, 1st November 2023] – In an Australian first initiative that continues to drive South Australia toward a sustainable future, Apex Energy Australia has unveiled a state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) charging station at its Melrose Park premises. The 22kW 3-phase charger is not just any charging point though — Apex is proud to provide all EV owners access to this unlimited EV charger for free, in what we believe is an Australian-first community approach.

What technically sets this charger apart is its ability to dynamically adjust its electric vehicle charging output rate based on the onsite solar availability and consumption. This innovative approach ensures the charger only utilises the low-cost renewable energy generated by Apex Energy’s 30kWp roof-mounted solar power system. This guarantees that the electricity to charge the business’s electric vehicles and all visitor vehicles is entirely carbon-free and at zero cost to the business. A unique triple-benefit scenario (Environment-EV Owners-Apex Energy).

Moreover, during weekends and public holidays, when business operations are minimal and solar energy production is under-utilised, the EV charger can be crucial in soaking up excess solar energy that would otherwise go into an already renewable-soaked South Australian electricity grid. The dynamic power adjustment function optimises energy consumption time-of-use to align with renewable generation perfectly. The optimised energy management approach contributes positively to Australia’s energy network and the transition to a 100% renewable grid.

Paul Stallan, owner of Apex Energy Australia, is enthusiastic about the potential impact of this initiative. “We’re incredibly proud to be the first to introduce this EV charging facility, which is an example Apex Energy’s motivation to support renewable energy solutions,” Stallan remarked. “By offering free, solar-powered charging, we’re not just supporting the community of EV owners but also demonstrating a viable, sustainable practice that we hope will inspire other businesses with unused solar generation to consider and make practical use of low-cost energy sources.”

This initiative aligns with South Australia’s renewable energy goals, further cementing Apex Energy Australia as a leading player in the state’s green transformation. It also invites Adelaide’s growing electric vehicle owner community to embrace renewable energy practices, contributing to a cleaner and greener transportation future. Apex Energy Australia encourages local and national media, green energy proponents, and the community to make use of the initiative and spread the word.

Apex Energy Australia invites all-electric vehicle owners to use the solar-powered EV charger, at no cost, with unlimited kWh on weekends and public holidays. The charger is located at 2 Allan Street, Melrose Park. Users must supply their own charging cable. The charging site can be found on global EV Charging platform, Plugshare – https://www.plugshare.com/location/563106

EV Owners can also view the status of the EV charger if it is available and solar power production via the onsite monitoring platform. https://www.solarweb.com/PublicDisplay?token=7ceb045c-8b5f-42b5-ad0e-800d679f077c
